Nine of last 21 players to make England debuts came through the Chelsea academy

An incredible nine players out of the last 21 England internationals to be handed their debuts had progressed through the Chelsea academy.

Blues assistant manager Jody Morris highlighted the achievement on Twitter and explained that the nine members had also arrived at Cobham between the ages of six and 10.

Talented center half Fikayo Tomori was the latest Chelsea star to make his maiden appearance for England in the 4-0 victory against Kosovo on Sunday.

The London outfit’s academy is renowned for producing talent and has taken particular prominence this season with Frank Lampard introducing several youngsters into the first-team fold.

Alongside ex-Derby loanee Tomori, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Declan Rice had all been named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Three Lions’ final Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Jack Cork, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Chalobah have also been awarded with their first international caps having spent the early days of their careers with Chelsea.
